Historic Entz Grocery
(529 Main Street, Silver Cliff) The distinctive half-round, stained glass window is the last of any decorative arts from this period of Silver Cliff’s history. The building was a blacksmith shop and hardware store. From 1909 to 1967 the building was a grocery and general merchandise store owned by several families, most recently by the late Lawrence and Wilda Entz. Read more...
Westcliffe Historic Jail
(116 2nd Street). Arch Scherar was a stone mason whose craftsmanship is evident in the two-room jail. While building the jail, Scherar left a few stones loose. According to family legend, he was the first guest to spend time in the jail. His evenings were spent at home and his days were spent in the cell. Nobody was ever the wiser. Circa 1900.
The Denver & Rio Grande Train Depot
The Denver & Rio Grande Train Depot, circa 1901 – 1902: This was Westcliffe’s second depot which served the community until 1938. The original depot burned in 1886. Wolff Hotel
(209 South 2nd Street) circa 1887. William Wolff built the hotel on south Second Street, which was known as "Dutch Row" because so many of the properties were owned by people of German descent. The building has been a hotel, saloon, gambling hall and private residence. Recently renovated, the building is said to be haunted.
Westcliffe Feed Store
(116 N. 2nd Street North) Moved from the Beddoes Ranch near Hillside, this three-story post and beam building was a gathering place for ranchers. The building was renovated in the 1980’s and was recently renovated again to create residential and commercial space. Circa 1880’s:
All Aboard Westcliffe
(110 Rosita Ave.) All Aboard Westcliffe was incorporated to preserve the railroad and heritage upon which the Town of Westcliffe was founded in the 1880’s. Historic Sing Key Laundry
The building is less significant that the man who owned and ran the laundry business from this site until his death in 1927. Sing Kee, or Lew Key as he became known, was one of nine men of Chinese descent who lived in Custer County in 1880. He first settled in Rosita and eventually moved to Silver Cliff. Historic Schaeffer Drug Store
(620 Main Street, Silver Cliff). The last brick commercial building remaining from Silver Cliff’s colorful past was originally a drug store. Later, Mrs. Inez Summer had a thriving beekeeping and honey business in the building for many years. It is now a restaurant. Circa 1888.
